I just got back from my professor's office where she helped me with an upcoming speech I have to give and the advice she gave me was quite helpful, but nothing was quite so helpful as a sticker I saw on her bulletin board. It was a plain white circular sticker with bold, black writing inside it. The writing said "FEAR NO ART". I looked at it for awhile as she answered a phone call and its meaning sunk in. All artwork should be appreciated not just for aesthetic beauty or elements of design, but for the big honking chunk of someone's soul that went into it.

From this day on, I will try to appreciate all art. Even art of a subject matter I downright dislike, such as yaoi. Someone still worked really hard on that artwork and it means something to them, so rather than seeing a picture/sculpture/story/song/whatever, I will try to see that person's essence. And this doesn't just apply to art. We should try to see the good in people, even those we hate. I challenge you all, regardless of your religion or spiritual beliefs, to pray for someone you hate today. If you do not believe in prayer, then just send them a friendly smile.
